You can become a member of Tarka Radio very easily. We have members from all walks of life and ranging in age from 16 to over 80. There really is something for everyone. We encourage membership from people who may have disabilities or those who find it more difficult to become involved in organisations. Many of our members have artistic, theatrical or broadcasting ambitions and many go on to achieve these. We like to help wherever we can and we have members with extensive media and broadcasting experience.

So why might you want to join us? Well, we exist to provide entertainment to the patients and staff of the North Devon District Hospital. The patients are (obviously) unwell, away from family and friends and value the support that we can provide them. We are not just a radio service. We visit the wards to talk to people and invite them to choose requests and dedications. Some may just wish to talk, others may wish to request a piece of music which we will play at the time of their choice. All in all we aim to help the patients and staff to make patients' stays in hospital as comfortable as possible.

We offer a variety of roles within the station. Critical to the survival of the service is fund raising. We enjoy good support locally but we have to keep raising money or we would cease to exist. We attend and hold various events and rely on members to "do their bit" to help make these a success. We are always looking for people with imagination and ingenuity to help with fund raising.

We also value any time members can spend ward visiting. This vital part of our role always benefits from new members becoming involved.

Naturally we offer the opportunity for members to train as presenters, broadcast assistants and production staff. You can benefit from the wealth of experience at the station and our links with
BBC Local Radio and Lantern FM.

We can also offer members the opportunity to work with our engineers to learn how to run and maintain a radio station as well as engineer outside broadcasts and road shows.

All work is entirely voluntary.
